This past weekend we ventured down the city again to a restaurant called Talula’s Garden, which is located is the heart of Center City Philadelphia, PA. It is farm-to-table and uses locally sourced ingredients that changes with each season. It has a beautiful atrium with outside eating (and there are heat lamps for those cool fall nights), and the inside is cozy and rustic. I will warn you though that it can be pretty loud and the tables are very close together. Most of their menu items can be made GF too!
We started off the meal with one of their cheese boards, and I have to say it was excellent! There are 5 different boards to choose one and they also have an option where you can arrange your own board. We decided on one called “Not Your Granny’s” which included a Rosemary Manchego, Cypress Grove Purple Haze which is a goat cheese and a blue cheese (you get 6 cheeses total). It was accompanied with GF crackers, (they also have non-GF crackers as well) a pear jam, apples, slivered almonds and fruit. I could have just eaten this with a glass of wine as my meal!
For my entree I decided to go with the “Pan Roasted Scottish Salmon” which is already made GF. It came with fresh farmer’s market Ratatouille and a Basil Pine Nut Pistou. We also decided to get the “Crispy Kennebec Potato Frites” with Dill and Onion Yogurt and the “Mediterranean Cucumbers” with pickled red onions, feta, basil and dill as our sides. I have to say I was a little disappointed in the salmon, it was overcooked and did not have a lot of flavor. The other ingredients paired with the salmon were good and the sides were tasty as well. I will definitely go back to give it another try even if it is only for the cheese board!
