This past weekend I didn’t really have a plan of where I wanted to eat but I was in the Plymouth Meeting/Lafayette Hill area so I decided on a place called “The General”. They offer creative American dishes from fried chicken, burgers and glazed salmon. They also offer Poke and Ramen noodle bowls. Nothing on their regular menu is labeled gluten free but they do have a separate GF menu which has a lot of options. They also have a separate sushi menu with a ton of different choices like your classic California Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll.
I wanted to try their sushi but I am not a huge seaweed fan so I prefer mine to be made with rice or soy paper. Unfortunately, they did not offer those so I decided against the sushi, but my boyfriend had the Spicy Tuna roll and he sad it was very good and fresh! For my appetizer I went with the Beet Salad which included two different types of beets with arugula, roasted macadamia nuts, ricotta salata and dill yogurt. It was delicious! The dill yogurt paired with the beets was so yummy and the arugula salad was super fresh and not overdressed.
For my entree I chose the Hot Rice Bowl which included rice, marinated spinach, pickled vegetables, cucumbers and a fried egg on top. You can choose your protein which is either beef, chicken or crispy tofu. I went with the tofu. I have actually never tried tofu and was a little nervous but it was really good. It had the right amount of crispiness and I liked it paired with the pickled veggies and spinach. All in all it was a good meal and there were definitely other GF options that I will be back to try.
