For our last day of vacation we headed into the city of Denver, Colorado. This was my first time in the city and I have to say I absolutely loved it! The city itself was beautiful, very urban style with lots of thriving breweries and tons of neighborhood cozy bars, and the culinary scene is booming with a lot of different style restaurants. Before arriving in Denver, I had done a little research of different GF restaurants and stumbled upon one called “Root Down.” It offers organic and naturally sourced ingredients. They even have their own 4,000 sq foot garden in the middle of the city where they grow 20% of their own seasonal vegetables. I knew this was the place I had to try.
The atmosphere was fantastic, they had inside seating with a bar and also a patio outside. We decided to sit outside where we had a good view to see some of the city lights and the weather was perfect. We started with the small plate of sweet potato fries GF which came with Curry Lime yogurt, and they were so good! For being a small plate I thought that the portion size was good and there were 4 of us. Everyone enjoyed them! For my entree I ordered the “Callicrate Flat Iron Steak” gluten free. Now, I know I have raved about other foods I have tasted in previous blogs, but this was terrific. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the Scallion Yogurt dressing was out of this world. Such a great compliment to the meat. The smashed red potatoes were great as well and even had a little crisp to them which I liked. The service was also good, our waiter was very accommodating and helpful. I will definitely be visiting Denver again, this time staying a few extra days on a mission to find more great places to eat like “Root Down”
