This past weekend I ventured into the city to a place called Alpen Rose, located in Midtown Village. A new steakhouse that just recently opened back in March. It came highly recommended to me so I figured why not give it a try. I have been to my fair share of steakhouses so I just figured this would be no different, but boy I was wrong. It actually took us a few minutes to find, we even walked past it a couple of times. Once we finally did arrive, we rang the door bell, a tiny window opened and the hostess greeted us and asked for our reservation name. Once confirmed she leads us into the restaurant and we were seated immediately. I highly recommend making a reservation since they have only 40 seats.
The decor is great it has a speakeasy feel to it. Very cozy with book shelves lining the wall and beautiful chandeliers. The dining area was filled with leather booths that elicits a vintage look. There is also a bar but it is tiny only about 4 seats. The menu does not list anything as being gluten free but our waiter was super accommodating and said he was able to guide me through the menu based on what I would want to order. I decided to start with the Beet Salad which included pistachios, frisee and fromage blanc (a creamy, soft cheese). It was delectable probably one of the best beet salads I’ve eaten.
For my entree I decided on the 8oz grass fed filet. None of the entrees come with sides they are all a la carte. We chose the Roasted Cauliflower steak with creme fraiche, raisins and almonds and the Potato Wedges with garlic aioli, Parmesan cheese, and parsley. The chef personally brought the sides out to our table to let me know that everything was made GF. The entire meal was excellent, one of the best filets I’ve had! The service was also great very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Alpen Rose to anyone who lives in the Philadelphia area or anyone who may be visiting.
