A Trip to Hershey, PA

This past weekend I was in Hershey, PA to take a tour of Troeg’s Brewery which was a Christmas present to my boyfriend. The tour was great and the brewery was awesome, but unfortunately I was not able to partake in any of the beer sampling. They did offer two GF ciders one which I really enjoyed called Big Hill Ciderworks Little Round Hop. It had a slight citrusy taste and was very refreshing. If you’re in the market for a new cider put this one on your list to try.

We did a little bit of research before heading to Hershey to see what kind of restaurants offered GF items and we found one called Piazza Sorrento. They listed on their website that they had a separate GF menu which seemed to include a lot of choices so we decided to give it a try. I was a little skeptical at first because I am very picky when it comes to Italian food but I was pleasantly surprised.

Once we arrived I noticed the cozy atmosphere and it was packed with people. The GF menu had a ton to choose from, probably the most extensive menu I have seen so far. Since its been so long since I’ve had Bruschetta I decided to start with that as my appetizer and it was delicious! Even my boyfriend who is not a huge fan of GF food (mostly GF bread) thought it was really good. The bread was crispy and the tomato mixture was tasty. They even added olives and fresh mozzarella to the plate as well. Another thing I liked was that when they brought out my food each platter had a piece of paper stating that it was a Gluten Free Choice.

For my entree it was a hard decision but I decided to try something that I wouldn’t normally order so I went with “Nonno Vincenzo Sausage and Peppers” which came with Sweet or Hot Italian Sausage, roasted peppers, onions and marinara sauce served over penne pasta. It was really good…the pasta and sausage (I went with one spicy and one sweet) were perfectly cooked and the sauce was very flavorful and they didn’t drown the pasta in it. With my boyfriends entree he got the Caprese salad and that was equally as good.

They also have a lot of GF dessert choices but I opted to not order one. All in all it was a very good experience and if I am ever in the area again this will definitely be on my list of places to go back to!
